In the summer of 2026, Catherine Courter ’27 attended UVA Advance, a four-week-long academic program that gives rising juniors and seniors an opportunity to earn six college credits. She took two courses: Oceanography and an English literature course, Brainrot, focusing on Henry David Thoreau’s Walden and his concept of brain rot. The unique topic and structure of Brainrot caught the attention of UVA’s newsletter, UVA Today, and Catherine was interviewed about the class for a featuredarticle.
