PVI Boys Basketball Wins the WCAC Championship for the Third Year in a Row
On Monday, February 23, 2026, the PVI Boys Basketball team won the WCAC Championship for the third year in a row.
The WCAC playoff journey began Saturday afternoon, February 21, at Gallaudet University, where the PVI Panthers faced the Mustangs of Bishop McNamara in the quarterfinal round. After a slow start in the first half, PVI battled back and headed into halftime with a narrow one-point lead. The team found its rhythm in the second half, closing out the game with composure and determination to secure a 62–54 victory and punch their ticket to the semifinals.
On Sunday afternoon, February 22, the action moved to American University for a highly anticipated matchup against cross-town rival Bishop O’Connell. In another gritty contest, the Panthers trailed at halftime but delivered a lockdown defensive performance in the second half. Their relentless effort and clutch play down the stretch powered them to a 57–51 win and a spot in the championship game.
The championship game on Monday night, February 23, was nothing short of unforgettable. In front of a sold-out crowd at American University, the Panthers squared off against the Cadets of St. John’s. PVI trailed for much of the game, but in the fourth quarter, the team dug deep, pushing through fatigue and adversity to force overtime.
What followed was an instant classic. The battle extended into a second overtime as both teams left everything on the court. With back-to-back defensive stops in the final moments, the Panthers sealed an epic 82–76 victory.
With that win, the Panthers were crowned the 2025–2026 WCAC Champions!
