PVI Student Attends UVA Advance Program
In the summer of 2026, Catherine Courter ’27 attended UVA Advance, a four-week-long academic program that gives rising juniors and seniors an opportunity to earn six college credits. She took two courses: Oceanography and an English literature course, Brainrot, focusing on Henry David Thoreau’s Walden and his concept of brain rot. The unique topic and structure of Brainrot caught the attention of UVA’s newsletter, UVA Today, and Catherine was interviewed about the class for a featured article.
Catherine stated, "UVA Advance was an amazing and enriching academic experience. My peers and I lived in a dorm on campus, which helped facilitate a strong community. The program focused on giving us as much independence as possible to build our time management and other skills that are essential in college. The program also held a pre-college workshop twice a week after class, which gave us valuable information about university admissions, resources, and study-abroad opportunities. I would recommend this program to any rising junior and senior who wants to get a taste of the undergraduate college experience."
