PVI Ice Hockey Wins Fourth Consecutive WCAC Championship
On Friday, February 13, 2026, the PVI Ice Hockey team defeated Bishop Ireton 2-0, winning the WCAC Metro Division Championship for the fourth year in a row.
Paul VI faced Bishop Ireton at The Gardens Ice House in Laurel, MD, for the championship game.
The atmosphere in the air was tense as the team looked to win their fourth championship in four years. In the first period, the two teams skated strongly, and the Panthers took 14 shots against the opposing goalie. No one was able to get the puck into the net.
At 6:42 in the second period, senior Will Kovacs got a pass from senior Reece White and sophomore Morgan Shaw before he buried it behind the opposing goalie, putting the Panthers up 1-0. With 17 seconds left in the second, sophomore Morgan Shaw ripped an unbelievable shot past the goalie, putting the Panthers up 2-0. He was assisted by sophomore Cooper Breissinger and junior Ben Labbe.
With a Zamboni break between the second and third period, the Panthers returned to the ice up 2-0, knowing the Cardinals were going to do anything they could to score. They played hard, checked hard, and finished the period without allowing any goals.
The Panthers won their fourth consecutive WCAC Championship, and senior Matthew Cogbill recorded a 28-save shutout to do it!
