Words of Wisdom Shared at Graduation
At Graduation on June 4th, Bishop Burbidge addressed the Class of 2017, reminiscing fondly on his first visit to Paul VI. He shared that it was one of the highlights of his time as bishop so far.
He also urged the Class of 2017: “Always remember to look above” and to keep their hearts and minds striving for Heaven.
Thomas Sheehan was the Valedictorian.
According to Thomas, the Class of 2017 shared many memories and experiences, both academic and spiritual.
“Both inside and outside the classroom we experienced times of solitude, times of teamwork, and times when we needed each. We have learned about compassion and respect, and the need to combine truth with charity. We learned the importance of having exceptional moments in our lives. And through it all, we have aimed to grow in grace and wisdom,” he said.
Landon Labuskes was the Salutatorian.
Landon’s speech focused on the importance of “why” and stressed that the value of a high school education encompasses more than what is learned in the classroom.
“No matter why we came to Paul VI, we all leave knowing that we were part of a community rivaled by few others. While you can find a group of friends at any school, PVI is special in that almost everyone is a friend to everyone. Community is what makes Paul VI special, and community is one of the most valuable things we will take away,” Landon said.
“High school isn’t just about what you learn in class; it’s about what you learn about yourself, about relationships with friends and teachers, about being men and women of character.”
