Annual Food Drive is a Huge Success!

Continuing a partnership that has run for more than 35 years, the St. Paul VI Catholic High School community recently concluded a successful food drive benefiting Food for Others during Hunger Action Week. Food for Others appreciates the commitment that our community has made to supporting their program.
Hunger Action Week has drawn to a close, and the St. Paul VI Catholic High School community is celebrating an extraordinary success in its annual food drive benefiting Food for Others. Between November 6 and November 10, PVI collected a grand total of 39,345 pounds of non-perishable food items!

Food for Others is a vital organization in Northern Virginia, that acts both as a food bank, distributing resources to other locations, and as a food pantry, directly assisting individuals and families in need in Loudoun and Fairfax Counties. Paul VI extends its sincere gratitude to everyone who participated in this year's food drive.

Each day an empty truck was filled with donated items. The focus this year was on items needed for the Power Pack Program, which provides weekend meals to students facing food insecurity.

The following items were collected for this vital program:
  • Approximately 10,246 mac & cheese and Chef Boyardee meals were donated
  • Approximately 63,186 breakfast meals (of cereal and oatmeal)
  • 23,589 ramen & Cup Noodles
  • 26,069 fruit cups and apple sauce pouches
  • 27,502 mainly canned vegetables mixed with some fruit cups/apple sauce and mac & cheese
The food drive was coordinated by the Student Government Association and incorporated an advisory competition that resonated with PVI's spirit of service. All the advisories did a great job. The battle for top places was fierce, but pulling away with 5th place and earning one dress-down day is Mrs. Revor/Mrs. Brandow’s advisory. Capturing 4th place and earning two dress-down days is Ms. O’Connor/Mr. Latar’s advisory. Coming in 3rd place and earning three dress-down days is Mr. O’Brien/Mrs. Gurley/Mrs. Karas’s advisory. A solid 2nd place finish earning four dress-down days goes to Dr. Opfer/Mrs. Tinsley/Mr. Keane’s advisory. With incredible numbers and earning a week of dress-down days, 1st place goes to the members of Mrs. Sloboda’s advisory.

St. Paul VI Catholic High School remains committed to our mission of serving others and making a positive impact in our community. We extend our heartfelt thanks to all those who contributed, and we look forward to future initiatives that continue to embody the PVI spirit of service.
