In 2023, Paul VI's Chinese program was selected as one of the national top 20 distinguished K-12 Chinese programs by the Chinese Language Teachers Association (CLTA). CLTA is an organizational member of the American Council on the Teaching of Foreign Languages (ACTFL), devoted exclusively to the study of the Chinese language, culture, and pedagogy in the United States. Laila Martin, Juyeong Kim, and Ethan Chisholm are participating in the Selection of American K-12 Outstanding Chinese Works/Writings.

In March 2023, PVI students had the unique opportunity to visit the China Folk House in Harper's Ferry, West Virginia, and explore the cultural heritage rooted in rural life in Yunnan, China. In 1989, a Tibetan Catholic family built a farmhouse near Cizhong in Yunnan, China. The house was later preserved and relocated from China to West Virginia by Dr. Flower, a history teacher at Sidwell Friends. During the field trip, Dr. Flower taught students about the village of Cizhong, which has a unique history as the home to a Catholic church and the experience of French missionaries there. Students were assigned to one of four different groups to learn about different topics: how to build a traditional Chinese stone house, exploring Chinese flowers/herbals and their symbolism, farming vegetables and food particular to Yunnan, and experiencing traditional Chinese arts firsthand.
