Hunger Action Week/Month a Huge Success
PVI is proud to announce the successful completion of its annual Hunger Action Week, held November 17–21, in support of Catholic Charities St. Lucy Food Project. One of the school’s largest service initiatives of the year, Hunger Action Week mobilizes the PVI community to collect food and essential items for families in need across Virginia.
This year, the Paul VI community came together in extraordinary generosity, contributing over of 26,000 pounds of food and essential items. Donations included peanut butter, pasta, canned goods, hygiene products, cooking staples, and more—meeting the most pressing needs of the season.
Each morning during the week, students, families, and faculty dropped off items where Catholic Charities representatives, Student Government Association (SGA) members, and other student leaders collected and recorded donations.
A new component this year—an Advisory team competition—encouraged collaboration and friendly rivalry. Advisory groups worked together to gather donations and earn points, with daily leaderboard updates displayed in the school lobby. Every Advisory was challenged to reach 2,000 points, inspiring remarkable engagement and teamwork.
“PVI’s collection this week has provided unprecedented support for the St. Lucy Food Project in such a short amount of time. With the surge in demand at our food pantries, having support from so many churches and schools like PVI better equips us to help those in need. The food, hygiene, and service projects that the students have donated to us will go a long way for us in serving those in need, and we cannot say thank you enough to them for their generosity. It is truly a reflection of God’s love to see over 20,000 pounds donated within a one-week time frame,” said James McCaskey, Senior Outreach Specialist Office.
PVI was committed to addressing food insecurity through Hunger Action Month, which started at the beginning of November. Donations were collected during events such as Dads & Drafts, Sip & Shop, and the fall play Radium Girls, and Grandparents Day to directly support families served by Catholic Charities St. Lucy Food Project.
Paul VI extends heartfelt gratitude to the SGA, student leaders, Campus Life, and all families who helped make this year’s Hunger Action Week and Hunger Action Month a success.
Together, we continue to answer the call to serve—bringing hope, nourishment, and love to our neighbors. Information about the St. Lucy Food Project can be found at the Catholic Charities website:
