DIS Music Presentations Highlight Our Students

On February 7, 2024, Katy Schrock '24 and Roy Wulf '26 shared their Directed Independent Studies (DIS) presentations with parents, friends, faculty, and administration.
Katy studied solo vocal literature and vocal health. She learned a wide variety of styles of music from classical to pop to country. She even accompanied herself on two of the songs, playing piano and guitar.

Roy studied the sacred music of the Catholic Church. He gave the history of Gregorian Chant and Sacred Polyphony and how churches have moved away from this practice even though it is the preferred music.

The presentations were extraordinary and beautifully highlighted how students are able to foster their creative and intellectual talents through the DIS program. Many thanks to Ms. Sara Prince for sponsoring both students' studies

DIS provides an opportunity for qualified and approved students to pursue a project of interest beyond the normal curricular requirements, under the aegis of a faculty advisor.

Guidelines for a Directed Independent Study: The student should initiate an initial discussion with a teacher he/she wishes to work with regarding the proposed topics of study. The student should draft a study proposal and then have a meeting and discussion with the teacher. It is expected that edits to the proposal will be made after this discussion.  More information can be found in our Course Catalog
