Colleges that Change Lives
It is possible to experience a stress-free, successful college search process that ends with a college fit that is right for each student. This is the message that Colleges That Change Lives will bring to 26 cities during the 11th annual series of national tours.
"Too often the focus of the college search is on ranking and ratings, which does not acknowledge the individual needs of each student and how they will 'fit' with the mission and identity of a campus community," says Marty O'Connell, Executive Director of Colleges That Change Lives.

Special Accommodations for SAT exam:
Mrs.
Ratliff is the Special Accommodations coordinator. A student must be currently
receiving special accommodations for classroom tests and/or other standardized
tests. Documents qualifying the student for special accommodations must be on
file at Paul VI to qualify and complete a student’s registration for special
accommodations for the SAT, PSAT and AP. This would be a current evaluation
report including cognitive ability and achievement test scores (within 3 years)
and a current school plan (within one year). A medical note is not
sufficient and cannot serve as a substitute for the comprehensive testing
requirement, except for certain physical/visual conditions.
When
to register?
Freshmen, sophomores, and juniors may register at any time, even though they
may not be taking a PSAT, SAT, SAT II, or
AP exam any time soon. Remember, eligibility remains effective as long as the
student attends Paul VI, has a current school accommodation plan, and is using
the accommodations.
College Board is reviewing carefully any
accommodation that cannot be met at a national test center. Therefore,
any student who needs an accommodation, other than additional time or a
large block answer sheet or large print, should submit the application for
special accommodations at least 7 weeks prior to the anticipated test date.
Please
note that each section will be timed individually. This means that a student with extended time
will not be able to advance to the next section of the SAT until the complete
allowed time has passed. For a student
with 50% extended time, the test will be five hours with 11 minutes of break
time (two 5 minute breaks and one 1 minute break). Allowing time for instructions, etc. the
entire time could run up to six hours.
In requesting this accommodation, please consider whether this length
will be helpful to the student. In many
cases, it may be so long as to be counterproductive.
Registration
materials are available in Guidance.
The
ACT also offers testing accommodations.
A student is required to send the Eligibility Form and test registration
forms in together for the first ACT exam when requesting extended time. ACT
does not provide pre-approval. Packets may be picked up in Guidance. For any
accommodation other than or in addition to extended time, please speak with
Mrs. Ratliff.
Documents, qualifying
a student for any accommodation, MUST be on file at Paul VI to complete an ACT
application:
Ø
An evaluation by a qualified professional that
states the specific diagnosis and need
for special accommodations.
