Welcome to the Social Studies Department
In consonance with the Paul VI Catholic High School ideal of educating our young citizens so that they may grow in grace and wisdom, the Social Studies Department teaches the students to appreciate the variables of human behavior and the incisive lessons of history. To achieve this end, core courses are directed to the critical analysis of Western Civilization, United States and Virginia History and United States Government. Variety, too, is offered in the form of attractive electives such as AP European History, Psychology, Sociology, Street Law, Twentieth Century United States History, Civil War, Eastern Civilizations, Geography and African-American Studies. Honors and Advanced Placement programs are also in place to challenge those youngsters who prosper in accelerated academic forums. Finally, as a key source of scholastic enrichment, the Social Studies Department sponsors the Multicultural Diversity Club, the United States Military History Club, the Classics Film Club and the Advanced Placement European History Team that competes annually in the Georgetown University History Bowl.
