Options provides a quality modified inclusive education in a Catholic Christian environment for high school age students with intellectual disabilities. PVI Options nurtures the maturation of inquisitive, creative, confident and motivated students. The goal is to maximize students' potential while enabling their independence.

The Options are Ours Top of page

PVI Options serves developmentally disabled students, with cognitive impairment and/or significant learning disabilities. Students should enter into the program with social skills and appropriate behavior patterns that will ensure their success. A primary goal for each student is to be as fully integrated as possible into the total life of the school community. Options places a strong commitment on academics with significant emphasis towards students' vocational/transitional exploration. Each student's plan is highly individualized.

The Options curriculum focuses learning in the following six domains of development:

  • Spiritual
  • Academic
  • Communication
  • Personal
  • Interpersonal
  • Career
  • The program operates in a language-based educational model predicated upon the following tenets:

  • What a student will learn is clearly identified in the annual goals statement.
  • Individual progress is based on demonstrated achievements.
  • Each student's needs are accommodated through a variety of instructional strategies and assessment tools.
  • Each student is provided time and assistance to realize his or her potential. The emphasis on student success is the cornerstone of this program founded on the belief that all individuals can learn. Students in the Options Program are required to take two semesters of religion during the school year.
  • Admissions Top of page

Admission of students is determined by a defined process involving input from both staff and parents, as well as representation by the Admissions Review and Options Staff Committees. Additional information concerning the admissions policy can be obtained by calling Mrs. Desmarais, Director of Options, at 703-352-0925 ext. 333

    Modified Inclusion Top of page

Inclusion is determined by the Individualized Education Plan, (IEP). Generally, the criteria for inclusion is the student's ability to be successful in the included environment. Focusing on the individual assures inclusion to be a positive and rewarding learning experience. To the greatest extent possible, our goal is to integrate each student into the life of the entire school environment.

    Peer Mentors Top of page

Student Peer Mentors are trained by the Options teaching staff and provide service extensively throughout the school community. They act as teachers, coaches, tutors, and friends. The Peer Mentor program is designed to enhance both the students' and mentors' self-esteem by allowing the development of interpersonal relationships.
